Complete Pet Health Care
05/2/11
Dogs and cats age much faster than we do. This inescapable fact means that we, hopefully, will outlive our current pet(s). It also means that an annual visit for your pet is equivalent to you or me seeing our own family doctor roughly every 6 – 8 years. A lot can happen in that period of time!
An annual exam for your pet should involve far more than simple vaccinations. In fact, sometimes vaccinations may be the least important part of an annual visit especially as your pet ages. Your four legged family members deserve complete health care during all stages of life.
Good care includes a thorough physical exam, periodic parasite testing (for your pets’ sake and for yours), accurate medical record keeping, appropriate education for feeding practices, weight management, training regimes, hygiene routines, dental care, ear care, breed predispositions, coat care, nail care and so much more. Your vet should recommend lab tests when appropriate that will lead to early diagnosis and treatment of disease, when diseases are most likely to be treatable. Your vet should send reminders for future health care needs including lab tests, vaccinations, rechecks for treatment of existing conditions, dental care, weight checks and any other health care needs.
The real value of your pet’s annual visit lays in the commitment your veterinary hospital and their team make to the overall health of your pet. That commitment includes these services that help you manage that care and significantly extends both the quantity and the quality of your pets’ lives.
Your pet’s health care is a team effort. Good care is complex and requires a dedicated team to do it justice. Health care services provided by your vet enable sharing the responsibility for such care between the owner and the health care expert, which is how it should be. Specifically addressing various health issues in a timely way is not your area of expertise, it is ours. We have highly trained receptionists, veterinary technicians and veterinarians here to support you in keeping your pets happy, healthy, and good companions through all life stages. Bring your pets in for their annual exam and we’ll be sure to give them their vaccines too!
